Accord Party Claims Democracy Threatened in Osun

The Accord Party, led by Rep. Bamidele Salam, held a press conference in Osogbo on Sunday, asserting that democracy in Osun is under threat due to the alleged weaponization of the Police Command against opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections and the upcoming August 15 governorship poll. The party accused the Osun Police Command of abandoning due process, citing the arrest of their Ijesa South House of Reps candidate, Popoola Alaba, who was moved to Abuja without proper invitation.

They also mentioned the arrest of Barrister Olaniyan Sodiq for calling out interference in INEC's PVC distribution by an APC leader. The Accord Party alleged a conspiracy involving Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan and Senator Francis Fadahunsi to target their leaders, including Senatorial candidate Ibukun Fadipe.

They called on President Tinubu to ensure security agencies remain neutral and demanded an independent investigation into claims of hoodlum importation into Ijesa-land. The party appealed to various organizations to defend Osun residents against what they described as an APC political siege.
