Accord Party Celebrates Adeleke's Victory, Demands Release

Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Chairman of the Accord Party, hailed Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory in the Osun State governorship election held on August 15, 2026, as a significant triumph for democracy and a reflection of the people's will. He called for the immediate release of detained Accord leaders, candidates, members, and supporters in Osun, Abuja, and Nasarawa, labeling their detention as a violation of fundamental rights.

Mgbudem urged the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and congratulated Nigerians on the election outcome, expressing hope for an improved 2027 general election. He noted that the election period was marred by harassment and intimidation but emphasized the steadfast support of Osun voters for Adeleke.

Mgbudem attributed the victory to Adeleke's achievements and transformative leadership, stating that the large voter turnout represented a triumph over fear and a commitment to democratic rights. He condemned the withholding of federal allocations to local governments in Osun as an attempt to destabilize Adeleke's administration.
