Spain Offers Quick Citizenship for 23 Nations in 2 Years

Spain's government has announced a new citizenship pathway that allows nationals from 23 specific countries to apply for Spanish citizenship after only two years of legal residency, a notable reduction from the standard ten-year requirement for most foreign nationals. This initiative is outlined by Spain's Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts and reflects the country's historical and cultural ties with these nations.

Eligible countries include 19 Latin American nations, Andorra, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, and Portugal. Additionally, individuals of Sephardic origin are also included under this provision.

While most foreign nationals must reside in Spain for ten years before applying for citizenship, refugees can apply after five years. Successful applicants must swear an oath of allegiance to the King of Spain and pledge to uphold the Spanish Constitution and its laws.

They are also required to renounce their previous nationality, except for those from the specified countries who can retain dual nationality.
