Adamawa State Launches Solar Mini-Grid Project

Adamawa State has initiated a solar mini-grid project in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC). The groundbreaking ceremony took place in Yola, led by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

This project aims to address energy poverty and is part of a broader strategy to enhance renewable energy access in the state. Fintiri described the initiative as a significant milestone that will provide reliable electricity, stimulate economic activities, and improve healthcare and education standards in the communities of Kofar Mbamba and Saminaka.

The project follows the state's engagement with REA and renewable energy investors, with plans to empower Adamawa through an investment roundtable in Abuja in 2025. The state is also working to attract investors by offering incentives such as free land, credit guarantees, and concession financing.

Currently, 20 REA-approved solar mini-grids are being deployed across Adamawa to expand electricity access to underserved communities.
