REA Launches 42 Renewable Energy Projects in Nigeria

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has commenced the construction of 42 renewable energy projects in Adamawa and Kebbi states to enhance electricity access and support economic activities. The initiative includes 39 mini-grid projects in Adamawa and a 3.5 megawatt solar power project in Kebbi.
The mini-grid projects consist of three interconnected mini-grids and 36 isolated mini-grids, with a total capacity of nearly 27 megawatts expected to provide electricity to 40,000 households and 6,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises. The projects were flagged off by Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegb and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who emphasized the importance of the initiative for improving electricity access and fostering economic growth.
The Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris also flagged off the solar power project, which includes a battery storage system. The REA aims to complement the national grid and encourage private sector investment in renewable energy.
