FG Launches 13.92MW Solar Mini-Grid Project in Yobe

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a 13.92-megawatt peak interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid project in Yobe State aimed at improving electricity access and stimulating economic activities. The project, implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency with support from the World Bank, was launched on Wednesday across five locations: Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, and Bade Local Government Areas.

It includes a 1.76MWp solar plant at Waziri Ibrahim Estate in Damaturu, a 2.98MWp facility in Gashua, a 3.20MWp installation in Nguru, and two plants in Potiskum with capacities of 3.20MWp at Yarimaram and 2.78MWp at Rugan Fulani. The initiative also involves the installation of 40 distribution transformers to enhance electricity distribution.

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni stated that the project would provide reliable electricity to thousands of households and support various sectors, including healthcare and agriculture. He noted that the state government had taken necessary measures to ensure the project's success and was working on domesticating the Electricity Act 2023 to attract private investments.
