ADC Coalition Remains Strong Despite Peter Obi's Exit

Paul Ib, a former media aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, affirmed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition continues to progress despite the recent resignation of Peter Obi on May 3, 2026. Obi's departure, attributed to alleged external interference and internal divisions, raised concerns about the coalition's cohesion.

However, Ib emphasized that the coalition remains on track and is gaining momentum as it prepares for its primary elections scheduled for mid-2025. The ADC coalition aims to unite prominent political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Obi's formal entry into the ADC is set for January 1, 2026, which is expected to enhance the coalition's credibility, particularly among young urban voters. Despite internal tensions leading to Obi's exit, ADC leaders assert that the coalition is intact and continues to attract new members.
