Adegok Promises Local Government Autonomy in Oyo

Adegboyega Adegok, the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, has pledged to implement financial autonomy for local governments if elected in 2027. During a visit to the Oyo Federal Constituency, which includes Atiba, Afijio, Oyo West, and Oyo East local government areas, Adegok stated that granting financial autonomy to local governments would enhance grassroots development and enable councils to maintain rural roads effectively.

He emphasized that local government representatives are the closest tier of government to the people, contrasting them with the state government, which he described as often distant from grassroots populations. Adegok promised to strengthen traditional institutions and ensure the prompt release of the statutory five percent share of local government allocations.

He asserted that the ADC administration would guide fair equity and justice in the allocation of federal resources to drive development across the state and improve infrastructure.
