ADC Urges Tinubu to Rethink Economic Policies Amid Poverty

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed serious concern regarding Nigeria's economic situation, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rethink his economic policies in light of a World Bank report indicating that 139 million Nigerians live below the national poverty line. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, speaking at the party's public secretariat, stated that the report aligns with findings from the World Food Programme, which noted that 17 million Nigerians face acute hunger.

The ADC criticized the Tinubu administration's economic policies as failing to deliver positive outcomes, calling for a shift away from neoliberal strategies that they argue have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians. The party highlighted the urgent need for structural reforms to address the root causes of hunger and poverty, proposing measures such as reducing energy costs for food production, rehabilitating abandoned dams, and building an integrated national food economy to enhance agricultural productivity and market access.
