Adeleke Claims EFCC Plans to Freeze Osun Accounts

Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of plotting to freeze the bank accounts of the state government and certain officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election. In a statement issued on Wednesday by Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke described this alleged action as an attempt to cripple government activities during the critical pre-election period.

He asserted that there is no legal basis for such a move and warned that it would represent "the height of lawlessness." The governor expressed concerns that freezing accounts could hinder the delivery of essential public services and escalate tensions in the state. He emphasized that the EFCC lacks the authority to interfere with the state's finances and labeled any such action as an abuse of power.

The allegations come as Adeleke seeks re-election, amidst claims of political interference against his administration. As of the report's filing, the EFCC had not responded to these allegations.
