Adeleke ally shot dead in Ile-Ife motor park dispute
Olalekan Ajagungbade, a political associate of Governor Adeleke, was killed in Ile-Ife during a clash over motor park control in Osun State.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke's close associate has died after being shot in Ile-Ife during an escalating dispute over transport sector control. Olalekan Oyeyemi Ajagungbade, popularly referred to as 'Emir' within political circles, was fatally wounded on Sunday afternoon at Mayfair Garage during a gathering.
The attack, according to sources, took place approximately 1:20 p.m. and stemmed from rival aspirations regarding motor park leadership in the historic city. The incident immediately created security dangers throughout Osun.
In the aftermath of Ajagungbade's death, gunfire rang out across multiple Osogbo neighborhoods as his backers discharged firearms skyward. Communities such as Oja-Oba, Gbaemu, Jaleyemi, and Odi-Olowo experienced the upheaval, forcing inhabitants to seek shelter indoors.
This turmoil illustrated the instability plaguing disagreements centered on dominance of the state's commercial transport facilities. Competing with Nurudeen Alowonle, who currently leads commercial drivers in Osun, Ajagungbade had found himself embroiled in a divisive struggle.
The slain individual, an Accord Party figure, endeavored to seize control of regional motor park activities. Reports suggest that his work in transport operations alongside his connection to the governor positioned him as an important player within these shadow hierarchies.
Governor Adeleke acted promptly, instructing the Osun State Police Command to locate those accountable for the killing. Via a communiqué from spokesperson Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor commanded warring factions to leave motor parks right away and established a Park Management System for restoring discipline.
No arrests have been made public by authorities regarding the crime.
