Adeleke Establishes Inquiry Panel for Ikire Violence

On August 31, 2026, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke issued an Executive Order to establish a Coroner Inquest/Panel of Inquiry following the killings, shootings, injuries, and violence reported at Naira and Kobo Junction, Motor Park/Garage Area, Ikire, on August 24, 2026. The panel, led by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, is tasked with investigating the circumstances of the incident, identifying victims, and determining the causes of the violence.

It will also examine the involvement of security operatives, including whether live ammunition was used legally. The inquiry has the authority to summon witnesses, demand police and medical records, and recommend actions such as prosecution, compensation for victims, and institutional reforms.

Governor Adeleke has mandated the preservation of evidence related to the incident and the protection of witnesses and victims' families. The inquiry aims to maintain peace in Ikire until its conclusion.
