New Osun Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura Appointed

Ibrahim Zungura has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police in Osun State, taking over the command after his transfer from the Police Academy in Kano, where he previously served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Training and Courses. Zungura arrived at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Monday, where he was received by Samuel Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police assigned to the 2026 Osun governorship election.

This appointment comes less than two weeks after the August 15 Osun governorship election and follows months of criticism directed at the police command by political actors and civil society groups. The criticism centered around allegations of bias in the police's handling of politically sensitive matters leading up to the election.
