CITAD Demands NIMC DG Resignation from APC Campaign Role

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has demanded the immediate resignation of Dr Bisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), from her alleged position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council. CITAD expressed concerns that her dual role as Director of Data Management for the APC could compromise the political neutrality of Nigeria's national identity database, which holds sensitive personal and biometric information of millions of Nigerians.

In a statement signed by CITAD Executive Director Yunusa Ya’u, the organization emphasized that the integrity and confidentiality of the NIMC's database are crucial for national security and public trust. CITAD argued that the simultaneous roles create a conflict of interest and could erode public confidence in NIMC.

They clarified that they are not alleging misuse of data but are concerned about the perception of partisan influence. CITAD questioned whether Coker-Odusote could maintain public confidence in NIMC while serving a political role.
