AEDC Restores Power Supply to Abuja After Technical Issues

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced on August 27 that normal power supply has been restored to Abuja and other areas within its franchise following the resolution of technical issues on transmission lines from the Shiroro Transmission Station. This announcement comes amid a dispute between AEDC and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) regarding the cause of a recent drop in electricity supply to the Federal Capital Territory, where AEDC reported a decrease in power allocation from approximately 641 megawatts to 314 megawatts.

AEDC attributed this reduction to the tripping of 330kV transmission lines, a claim that TCN rejected as “inaccurate and misleading,” stating that the lines were operational and attributing the supply reduction to low power generation on the national grid. Despite the resolution, AEDC's statement did not directly address TCN's denial of the tripping claim, leaving both agencies with differing accounts of the situation.
