Abuja Faces New Power Outage Due to Cable Fault

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a fresh power outage affecting parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), specifically in the Maitama district, including Usuma Street, Off Gana Street, Zenith Bank, and H-Medix. The outage is attributed to a fault on a high-voltage underground cable.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, AEDC informed customers that engineers have begun efforts to identify and repair the fault to restore electricity supply. This outage has raised concerns among residents and businesses, who have reported unstable electricity supply in recent days.

Many residents expressed frustration, stating that the outages disrupt business activities and household routines, increasing reliance on alternative power sources. AEDC has appealed for customer understanding during the repair process but did not provide a timeline for restoration.

Experts note that underground cables, while protected from weather damage, can be challenging to inspect and repair, potentially prolonging the outage.
