AEDC, NAEDL to Distribute 35,000 Free Meters in Nasarawa

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Nasarawa Electricity Distribution Limited (NAEDL) have announced a collaboration to distribute approximately 35,000 electricity meters across Nasarawa State. Engr.

Chijiok Okwukeny, the Managing Director of AEDC, revealed this initiative during a stakeholder engagement in the Keffi Local Government Area. The mass meter initiative will be rolled out at no cost to customers in specifically identified areas, aiming to eliminate arbitrary billing practices and improve service delivery.

However, Okwukeny cautioned against energy theft, which could undermine the efforts of the electricity distribution companies to ensure a consistent supply of electricity to residents. Mr.

Veronica Abah, the Managing Director of NAEDL, confirmed the deployment of these meters, noting that the current customer population in Nasarawa State is 233,807, with a total of 175,321 meters installed, leaving a gap of 58,486 unmet customers. Engr.

Yakubu Loko, the Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC), praised the state government for enacting the Nasarawa State Electricity Law, which supports the operations of NAEDL.
