Shettima Advocates Unity in Africa's Digital Policies

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima called for African countries to collaborate and present a unified stance on digital governance, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence at the seventh Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. Represented by Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Shettima stressed that no single African nation could achieve the continent's digital goals independently.

He highlighted the importance of cooperation in expanding affordable internet access, enhancing cybersecurity, and developing responsible AI governance. Shettima noted that digital technologies are crucial for economic competitiveness and public service delivery, particularly for Africa's youth.

He urged Africa to move from merely participating in global technology discussions to actively shaping policies that reflect African priorities. Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to broadband expansion and digital infrastructure development under President Bola Tinubu's administration, linking these efforts to the African Union's Agenda 2063.
