Africa's Telecom Leaders Push for Regulatory Cooperation

Telecommunications leaders across Africa convened in Abuja to advocate for stronger regulatory cooperation to address common challenges in the sector. Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, noted that despite varying market sizes and legal frameworks, African regulators encounter similar operational realities.

He encouraged open discussions on infrastructure resilience, investment, affordability, and emerging technologies. Rimini Makama, Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management at the NCC, highlighted the inadequacy of traditional regulatory frameworks in keeping pace with advancements in broadband and digital infrastructure.

She stated that the session aimed to share lessons from the NCC's experiences and identify common challenges among African regulators. Timothy Ashong, Director General of RASCOM, commended Nigeria's transparent management of network disruptions, advocating for similar practices across Africa to enhance accountability and public engagement.

He reaffirmed RASCOM's commitment to collaborating with governments and stakeholders to improve connectivity and advance digital development across the continent.
