Nigeria to Host ATU Summit on Digital Agenda in 2026

Nigeria is set to host the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) summit from July 23-24, 2026, in Abuja. This summit will bring together senior government officials, regulatory industry leaders, and development partners from the 52 member states to shape Africa's telecommunications and digital agenda for the next four years.

Delegates are expected to adopt the union's strategic directives and approve the 2027-2031 budget work program. The summit will also elect a new Secretary-General and determine the composition of the administrative council.

Discussions will focus on Africa's common position ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference later in the year in Doha, Qatar. Dr.

Bosun Tijani, Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, described the conference as a landmark event for Africa's digital future. John Omo, Secretary-General of the ATU, emphasized the meeting as a crucial opportunity for member states to strengthen the union's ability to drive Africa's digital ambitions.

The conference is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Abuja Declaration, providing a common framework for advancing Africa's digital transformation agenda.
