Nigerian Workshop to Enhance Insurance Reporting Skills

A two-day journalism workshop, backed by the Africa Reinsurance Corporation and organized by Insurance Publication Ltd, is set for September 15-16, 2026, in Nigeria. The workshop, themed “The Universe of Insurance and Journalism: Risk Everywhere, in Everything,” aims to deepen discussions on how insurance and risk can enhance reporting on critical issues such as insecurity, climate change, and economic hardship.

Ifeanyi Ugwuadu, Project Coordinator, noted that the event has sparked intense debate among journalists on moving beyond traditional insurance reporting. Key questions include how to apply risk concepts in reporting without promoting insurance products and what essential insurance concepts journalists should understand by 2026.

Professor Ismail Ibraheem from the University of Lagos will address how to investigate insurance as a risk-management issue, while Dr Omogbai Omo-Eboh will discuss legal risks for investigative journalists. This workshop comes at a pivotal time for Nigeria's insurance sector, following recent recapitalization and legal framework updates.
