Nigeria Hosts Workshop on Climate-Smart Livestock Development

The Nigerian Government is committed to climate-smart livestock development and regional collaboration, as evidenced by the ongoing five-day Technical Working Group (TWG) Workshop on Climate Finance. This workshop, which began on July 27 and will conclude on July 31, 2026, involves participants from Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia and is facilitated by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in partnership with the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES).

During a courtesy visit in Abuja, Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, emphasized the importance of African cooperation in addressing climate challenges in the livestock sector. He praised Kenya and Zambia for sharing their experiences and reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to supporting the TWG.

Dr. Peter Alike, Team Lead of TWG-Nigeria, noted the workshop's focus on equipping participants with skills in climate finance and proposal development.

The initiative also includes a study visit to Colombia to adapt global best practices to local contexts.
