Nigerian Army Recognized as Africa’s Best National Army

The Foundation for Democracy in Africa (FDA) congratulated the Nigerian Army for its historic recognition as Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025, awarded by African Security Watch during a ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia. This accolade acknowledges the leadership of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the Army's renewed focus on professionalism and operational readiness in addressing Nigeria's security challenges.

Shaibu unveiled his command philosophy, PROSE, on February 25, 2026, emphasizing the need for a new leadership approach to tackle Nigeria's complex security environment. The FDA noted improvements in the Army's operational effectiveness, including increased troop motivation and enhanced collaboration with other security agencies.

Hassan Mohammed of the FDA praised the Army's commitment to national security and highlighted the importance of the award as a recognition of the troops' dedication. The award was formally presented to Lt.
