Nigerian Army Named Africa's Best in Counter-Terrorism 2025

The Nigerian Army has been honored as Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, acknowledging its exceptional operational achievements and strategic leadership in combating terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen.

Waidi Shaibu received the award in Abuja, emphasizing the courage, professionalism, and dedication of Nigerian Army personnel. He dedicated the award to the officers and soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and their families.

Shaibu reaffirmed the Army's commitment to enhancing operational successes through intelligence-led operations, joint collaborations, rigorous training, and modern capabilities. The award reflects the Nigerian Army's effectiveness in coordinated operations and civil-military cooperation, significantly weakening terrorist organizations and enhancing security.

The formal presentation was made by Maj.-Gen. Teriworie Gagariga, who had collected the award on behalf of the Nigerian Army during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, Gambia.
