Nigerian Army Chief Details Recent Operational Successes

During an interactive session with media executives on Saturday, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, revealed that recent operational successes are due to the acquisition of modern combat equipment, expanded aviation capabilities, and improvements in troop welfare. This event took place at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, coinciding with the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration.

Shaibu credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing strategic leadership and critical resources to enhance the army's capacity to confront emerging security threats. He discussed ongoing joint operations involving the Nigerian Army, security agencies, and international partners, which have resulted in the neutralization of terrorist elements and the disruption of criminal networks.

The army is also expanding its recruitment and training capacity by establishing two additional training depots in Osogbo, Osun State, and Amasiri, Ebonyi State, alongside existing facilities in Zaria. Furthermore, the army is prioritizing personnel welfare through new accommodations, educational subsidies, healthcare services, and a group life assurance scheme benefiting 15,000 personnel.
