Ekiti Worshippers Freed After 67 Days in Captivity

Sixteen worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Ekiti State, regained their freedom after 67 days in captivity. The victims were kidnapped on March 28, 2026, when gunmen invaded the church during a service, resulting in the abduction of the worshippers, including women and children.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion, which was later reduced to N50 million. Reports indicate that a total of N25.5 million was paid along with additional items such as 150 liters of petrol and five bags of rice.

Tragically, one woman died while in captivity. The Ekiti State Police Command coordinated the rescue operation, which involved multiple security agencies.

The state government, led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, is covering the medical expenses for the victims, who are currently receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital due to injuries sustained during their captivity.
