Tinubu Orders Release of 300 Power Equipment Containers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has initiated the release of more than 300 containers of electricity equipment that have been stranded at Nigerian ports for between 14 and 20 years. This action follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu for their immediate clearance.
Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS national public relations officer, confirmed that the Service received a letter from the Federal Ministry of Finance instructing them to expedite the release. The Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, announced the directive after a Federal Executive Council meeting.
He indicated that the containers contain essential materials for electricity transmission projects but have been delayed due to unpaid charges and unresolved clearance procedures. Tegbe described the prolonged delay as a significant setback for the power sector, emphasizing the need to resolve the issue to improve Nigeria's electricity transmission capacity and address infrastructure challenges affecting power supply.
