Sultan Urges Muslims to Search for Shawwal Crescent

Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to begin the search for the Shawwal crescent moon, which will indicate the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. The sighting of the moon is expected on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

In a separate legal matter, the Nigerian Bar Association has criticized a judge for allegedly ordering lawyer Omoyele Sowore to kneel in court during proceedings related to a cybercrime case. The association described the judge's actions as unacceptable and a violation of the dignity of the legal profession.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu departed Nigeria for a state visit to the United Kingdom, marking his first visit as a Nigerian leader in 37 years, with plans to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
