Nigeria Customs Service Targets N11.07tn Revenue by 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service has set an ambitious revenue target of N11.074 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, nearly doubling its 2025 target of N6.584 trillion. Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi disclosed this on Monday while defending the agency's 2026 budget proposal before the Senate and House of Representatives committees on customs.

As of May 31, 2026, the agency had generated N4.43 trillion and expressed confidence in meeting or surpassing its annual revenue projection despite prevailing global economic uncertainties. Adeniyi attributed this optimism to ongoing reforms within the service, although he acknowledged that certain government policies could impact revenue generation in 2026.

The agency's 2026 budget proposal includes an expenditure of N1.235 trillion, with allocations for personnel costs, overhead, and capital projects. The Senate, led by Chairman Jibrin Isah, praised the extension of Adeniyi's tenure for six months, citing significant improvements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations under his leadership.
