AGHAN Sets Final Deadline for Airlines to Pay N9bn Debt

The Aviation Ground Handling Association of Nigeria (AGHAN) has issued a final three-day payment deadline to airlines to settle an outstanding debt of N9 billion. In a letter dated April 30, 2026, AGHAN expressed deep frustration over the prolonged silence and inaction from airlines despite previous engagements, including a letter sent on April 20, 2026.

AGHAN had earlier provided a seven-day ultimatum, which the airlines allegedly ignored. The association warned that the continued lack of response exacerbates the financial burden on its members, who provide essential services such as aircraft marshaling and baggage handling across airports in Nigeria.

The final notice stipulates that if the airlines fail to settle their obligations by May 6, 2026, AGHAN will proceed to withdraw services without further recourse. The association remains open to constructive engagement to resolve the matter amicably and avoid disruption to aviation operations.

Efforts to reach airlines for comment have not been successful, as spokesperson Obiora Okonkwo did not respond to inquiries.
