Akwa Ibom NUJ Urges Security Agencies to Secure Waterways and Develop Infrastructure

The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure waterways to protect lives and livelihoods. The council condemned piracy and extortion activities by criminals along the waterways in Mbo Local Government Area.

They also appealed to the state government to take action on constructing the Ibaka Road to alleviate residents' hardships. Additionally, the NUJ urged the government to address issues like arbitrary rent increases, construct low-income housing, and ensure prompt payment of pensions.

The council commended the state government for awarding contracts to construct 85 internal roads across the state, aiming to boost tourism.
