Airtel Nigeria Launches Green School Program for Sustainability

Airtel Nigeria, through the Airtel Africa Foundation, has launched the Airtel Green School Program to promote sustainability education in Nigerian schools. This initiative aims to introduce environmental learning spaces designed to enhance climate awareness and ecological skills through everyday classroom activities.

The program, which is part of a broader corporate social responsibility strategy, will be implemented in ten selected schools across nine states, covering Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Each school will receive an Airtel garden, which will serve as a practical teaching tool, including sections for edible crops and fruit trees.

The program also incorporates compost stations and plastic recycling units to promote circular economy practices. Schools involved include St.

George's Nursery Primary School in Lagos, Yahaya Primary School in Zaria, and others across various states. Segun Ogusanya, Chairman of Airtel Africa Foundation, stated that the program is designed to move environmental education beyond awareness campaigns to create real behavioral change.

Dinesh Balsingh, CEO of Airtel Nigeria, emphasized the importance of translating climate awareness into actionable practices.
