Aisha Yesufu Critiques National Assembly Over Soldier Killings

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist, publicly criticized the National Assembly for its silence on the recent killings of Nigerian soldiers by terrorists, specifically the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). In a post on her former Twitter handle on Thursday, she expressed concern over the rising number of soldiers lost in the fight against insurgency, questioning the lawmakers' commitment to protecting the welfare of military personnel.

Yesufu emphasized the need for the National Assembly to summon discussions and create laws that would ensure the protection of families of slain soldiers. She condemned the Senate's inaction, describing it as passive and disastrous.

The criticism follows reports of coordinated attacks by insurgents in Borno State, where an unconfirmed number of soldiers were killed during an assault on a military base at around 4 AM on Wednesday. The insurgents reportedly ransacked the community, searching for soldiers believed to be hiding and setting military vehicles ablaze.
