Akpabio Denies Promising Return Tickets to Senators

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, clarified that he neither promised nor authorized anyone to guarantee return tickets for senators who lost in the primaries. His comments were made in response to concerns raised on the Senate floor, particularly regarding the outcomes of the party's nomination contests ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akpabio expressed optimism that issues arising from the primaries would eventually be resolved. A statement issued by his special adviser, Esem Eyiboh, emphasized that Akpabio's remarks were intended to show solidarity with colleagues affected by the primaries.

He reassured that the APC leadership would examine the complaints related to the final list of candidates, which would be released in accordance with the party's constitutional electoral guidelines. Akpabio also stressed the importance of maintaining party discipline and due process, asserting that he would not interfere with internal party mechanisms.
