Akpabio Petitions DSS Over False Anti-North Statement

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, submitted a petition to the Department of State Services (DSS) concerning a purported anti-Northern statement falsely attributed to him. The complaint was made public by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, and filed by Akpabio’s Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze.

The petition requests an urgent investigation into what it describes as a “manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive statement.” The statement, which allegedly claims, “Northerners, You Will Be The Ones To Suffer The Most, If You Allow Tinubu To Lose The Election,” was circulated with Akpabio's photograph and designation. Akpabio's office stated that no credible evidence supports the statement's authenticity.

The petition identifies individuals, including Abdullai Musa and Uzoma Chilaka, who were among the first to share the graphic on Facebook, but emphasizes that they should not be presumed guilty. The petition underscores the need to trace the origin of the graphic amid increasing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
