Al Jazeera Apologizes to Bwala Over Controversial Interview

Daniel Bwala, a presidential aide to Bola Tinubu, disclosed that Al Jazeera issued a private apology concerning an interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan. The interview, which aired on March 2026, involved Bwala confronting Hasan over comments made about President Tinubu's support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Bwala stated that Al Jazeera's handling of the interview was flawed and that they admitted to aspects of the program being mismanaged. He indicated that the network's private apology would not be made public, prompting him to instruct his lawyer in England to file a defamation suit against Al Jazeera.

Bwala accused Hasan of editing the interview to favor his narrative, removing parts that reflected positively on him. He also sought independent opinions from media professionals, including Piers Morgan, who agreed that the program did not meet journalistic standards.

Bwala's legal counsel concluded that the broadcast constituted defamation.
