Yoruba Tennis Club Celebrates 100 Years of Heritage

The Yoruba Tennis Club (YTC) in Lagos celebrated its 100th anniversary by honoring Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland. The celebration, themed ‘Our Heritage: Present, Past and the Future’, gathered club members, traditional rulers, and dignitaries to commemorate a century of cultural heritage and legacy.

The event featured cultural displays from the Campos Fanti Group, Lafiaji Fanti Group, and Eyo Group, along with traditional prayers for the club's growth and unity. Chief Olawumi Gasper, Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club, urged members and Nigerians to uphold the cultural values and traditions that have sustained the club.

He emphasized that the centenary was not just a historical commemoration but a celebration of identity, leadership, and enduring values. Gasper acknowledged the Alake's role as a custodian of Yoruba culture and highlighted the relevance of traditional leadership in guiding future generations.

He noted that embracing modernity should not come at the expense of cultural roots.
