Peter Obi Blocked Again from Entering Benue State

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, attempted to visit internally displaced persons’ camps in Benue on Tuesday morning but was blocked by youths along the Gboko road near the Nigerian Air Force Base. This incident marks the second time Obi has been prevented from entering Benue, following a similar occurrence in April 2025.

Witnesses reported that the youths, armed with sticks, threw stones at Obi's convoy and barricaded the road. Abu Suleiman, the Benue South Zonal Chairman of the NDC, confirmed that Obi waited for over an hour to speak with the youths but ultimately decided to turn back and flew to Jos, Plateau State.

Adoor John, a local resident, alleged that an emergency meeting was held by youths the night before to mobilize against Obi's visit. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, stated that the police were aware of the situation and are investigating the reasons behind the youths' actions.

Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu confirmed that security was provided for Obi but noted that the youths did not want him to enter.
