El-Rufai's Wife Sues ICPC for N2bn Defamation

On May 18, 2026, El-Rufai's wife filed a N2 billion defamation lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The suit follows a press statement issued by ICPC spokesperson J.

Okor Odei, which her legal team argues contains defamatory statements that have significantly harmed her reputation. The legal representatives contend that the ICPC's assertions cast doubt on her status as the spouse of the former governor and misrepresented her actions during a visit to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.

They claim the statement was misleading and portrayed her as dishonest, thereby damaging her public image. The legal team demands an immediate retraction of the statement, a public apology published in at least three national newspapers, and dissemination across the ICPC's digital and social media platforms.

They also seek a written assurance from the ICPC that no similar statements will be made in the future. The ICPC has been given 14 days to meet these demands before legal proceedings commence.
