Court Orders Justification for Adeniyi Adeyemi's Detention

The Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to provide justification for the continued detention of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), within 72 hours. This directive was issued by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on Thursday following an ex parte application related to Adeyemi's fundamental rights enforcement suit.

Although the court did not order Adeyemi's immediate release, it granted him unrestricted access to his chosen lawyers during reasonable hours. The case is adjourned until September 9, when the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the AGF are expected to respond to Adeyemi's requests, which include his release from custody, bail, and medical treatment.

Additionally, Adeyemi sought to prevent police interrogation without his lawyer present. Justice Egwuatu did not grant these requests outright but required the respondents to appear and state their position.
