FUTA Workers Protest Non-Payment of Allowances

On Thursday, workers of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, protested against the alleged non-payment of their allowances by the university's management. The workers, represented by the National Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities, FUTA branch, claimed that while other unions received their approved allowances, their members were excluded.

Adebayo Aladerotohun, the branch chairman, stated that the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Allowance and Earned Allowances approved by the Federal Government were withheld from his association's members. He reported that their names were removed from the payroll for these payments and threatened legal action if the management did not address the issue within seven days.

In response, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Taiwo Amos urged for calm and assured the protesters that management was committed to resolving the matter amicably, emphasizing the importance of dialogue over confrontation.
