NLC and TUC Initiate Indefinite Strike at FUTATH

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ondo State have directed workers at the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) to commence an indefinite strike starting at 12:00 midnight on July 26, 2026. This decision follows the hospital management's alleged failure to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding staff welfare.

The directive, signed by NLC Chairman Comrade (Prince) Ademola Adeniji Olapade and TUC Chairman Comrade Clement Fatuase, states that workers are to withdraw their services until further notice. The strike follows a seven-day ultimatum issued to the management, which expired without resolution.

Key issues include the failure to enroll workers into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and allegations of coercion against union membership. The unions demand immediate enrollment of all workers on the nominal roll and cessation of victimization against union members.

A peaceful picketing is planned for July 27, 2026, to support the implementation of the MoU.
