FG Addresses Labor Dispute at FUTA Teaching Hospital

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is taking steps to resolve an ongoing industrial dispute at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH). This initiative follows a seven-day ultimatum issued by organized labor regarding alleged violations of workers’ rights and breaches of a transition agreement after the Federal Government took over the former University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH).

A letter signed by Mr. Festus Igbinosun, Deputy Director of Reform Coordination and Service Delivery, informed the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ondo State about a delegation from Abuja visiting the hospital for discussions.

The meeting is set to take place in the hospital's boardroom and aims to facilitate constructive dialogue among stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the issues causing recurring industrial actions. This intervention follows the completion of the Federal Government’s transition program, which formally transitioned UNIMEDTH into FUTATH, including a biometric capture of eligible workers as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on October 23, 2025.
