Ondo Labor Union Accuses Teaching Hospital of Victimization

The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress in Ondo State have accused the management of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital of victimizing workers affiliated with their unions. In a letter addressed to the hospital management, signed by state chairmen Demola Olopade and Clement Fatwa, the unions reported ongoing intimidation and harassment of union members.

They emphasized that every public worker has the right to belong to a trade union and warned that any attempt to suppress union activities would be resisted. The unions demand that the hospital management cease practices that pressure workers to renounce their union membership and ensure that eligible workers are enrolled in the personnel payroll system without discrimination.

They threatened to embark on industrial action if their demands are not met within seven days. In response, Chief Medical Director Prof. Olusegun Ojo denied the allegations, stating that the management has complied with the terms of the memorandum of understanding and expressed disappointment over the unions' public declarations.
