AMA Partners with Singapore to Enhance Africa's Health Regulation

The African Medicines Agency (AMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) to strengthen regulatory cooperation and harmonize medical product regulation across Africa. This agreement was announced by the AMA on September 17, 2026, during the 30th International Medical Device Regulators Forum in Singapore.

The MoU outlines collaboration on information sharing, technical expertise, capacity building, and regulatory practices. Delese Mini Darko, AMA's director-general, emphasized the importance of this partnership in connecting HSA’s expertise with Africa’s regulatory network to improve access to quality health products.

The AMA aims to develop a harmonized regulatory framework across the continent, ensuring consistent safety and efficacy standards for patients. Raymond Chua, CEO of HSA, expressed that the agreement lays a foundation for future cooperation, enhancing regulatory capabilities and benefiting healthcare systems in both regions.

The partnership is expected to foster closer regulatory cooperation and scientific exchange.
