Sowore Claims Amaechi's Political Rise Linked to His Activism

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), asserted that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, would not have achieved his political positions without Sowore's contributions to the struggle for democracy in Nigeria. Sowore made this claim during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, reflecting on a recent confrontation with Amaechi at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

During the event, Amaechi, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), told Sowore to “close his mouth” while politicians were speaking. In response, Sowore emphasized that his activism and participation in the pro-democracy movement created the political environment that allowed individuals like Amaechi to hold public office.

He stated, “If I did not fight for democracy, Rotimi Amaechi would never have been governor or minister,” and mentioned that he asked Amaechi to apologize after the NBA event.
