Gunmen Abduct Students, Kill Teacher in Borno Attack

On June 29, 2026, gunmen attacked the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, located in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. During the attack, they killed a teacher and forcibly abducted multiple students from their classrooms.

The incident occurred on a market day when the community was busy with commercial activities, catching residents off guard. Solomon Kwamagar, a media strategist for Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, confirmed the attack and noted that efforts were ongoing to establish the exact number of students and school personnel kidnapped.

The Adamawa State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroj, could not be reached for comment. This attack has reignited fears regarding the safety of educational institutions in Nigeria, particularly in vulnerable areas prone to armed group attacks.

It follows a recent incident in Oyo State where a dozen pupils and a teacher were also abducted, prompting calls for improved security measures around schools.
