Tobi Amusan Wins Silver in 200m at Jamaica Veloc Fest

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the women's 100m hurdles, commenced her 2026 athletics campaign by securing a silver medal in the women's 200m at the Veloc Fest in Jamaica. She recorded a season-best time of 23.25 seconds, finishing second to Jamaican sprint icon Elaine Thompson-Herah, who won the race with a time of 22.61 seconds.

Ackera Nugent placed third with a time of 23.35 seconds. This performance marks an encouraging start for Amusan as she prepares for major international competitions, including the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, where she is Nigeria's sole medalist from the previous event.

Amusan confirmed her participation in the Prefontaine Classic, where she will return to her specialty, the 100m hurdles, on July 4, part of the Diamond League series at Hayward Field. She has established herself as a dominant athlete in her event over the past decade, winning the Diamond League final three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023.
