Tobi Amusan Secures 2nd Place at Jamaica's Veloc Fest

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, commenced her 2026 outdoor season with a commendable second-place finish in the women's 200m at the Veloc Fest in Jamaica. She recorded a season-best time of 23.25 seconds, finishing behind Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah, who won the race with a time of 22.61 seconds.

Jamaican athlete Ackera Nugent secured third place with a time of 23.35 seconds. Although the 200m is not Amusan's primary event, her performance indicates a positive sign of her speed and overall fitness as she prepares for the demands of the athletic season.

The 28-year-old often competes in flat sprint races to enhance her explosiveness ahead of hurdle competitions. Following this event, Amusan will focus on the prestigious Prefontaine Classic scheduled for July 4 in Eugene, where she expects to compete in her first major hurdle race of the season on the Diamond League circuit.

Eugene holds special significance for Amusan, as it was the site of her historic performance at the World Athletics Championships, where she set the women's 100m hurdles world record at 12.12 seconds and won gold, becoming the first Nigerian and African woman to claim a world title in the event.
