Anambra Assembly Reviews Recall of Suspended Lawmaker

The Anambra State House of Assembly commenced proceedings to review the potential recall of suspended lawmaker Bernard Udemezu, who represents the Ayamelum Constituency. This review was announced during a plenary session on February 17, 2026, when Speaker Somtochukwu Udez directed the House Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges to urgently re-examine Udemezu's suspension.

Udemezu was initially suspended for three months starting in August 2025 due to findings from the Committee on Ethics and Privileges that cited his unparliamentary conduct related to social media posts that allegedly marginalized his constituency. His suspension was extended for an additional three months on November 26, 2025, due to his alleged failure to comply with House directives, including continued posting of materials deemed critical of the Assembly.

During the session, Speaker Udez instructed Committee Chair Hon. Ikenna Ofodem to assess Udemezu's level of compliance with House resolutions, with a report expected back by February 19, 2026.
